Commitment to Food Safety – State, FDA and Third Party Inspections

Posted: 11/10/2008 - 11/10/2009

Capital City Fruit recently received our State and FDA annual inspections. The State of Iowa is contracted by the FDA to perform the FDA inspections in conjunction with the annual inspection by the State Department of Inspections and Appeals. These inspections are conducted at restaurants, food manufacturing facilities, and various other types of food preparation facilities. The inspection evaluates the sanitation, good manufacturing practices, and HACCP programs as well as the overall condition of each facility.

Capital City Fruit’s State and FDA inspection was conducted on November 5, 2008. The inspections went very well, as the inspector found no deficiencies in our facility. The inspector was quite impressed with our operation.  He noted that everyone in the facility was observing proper Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP’s), and stated that we were doing a very good job of keeping all of our employees focused on food safety. Further, he observed that our storage areas are very well organized as we toured the facility.

Capital City Fruit was very pleased with the results of this unannounced inspection, which came on the heels of our AIB and Primus audits that were conducted on October 1, 2008.  We received a “Superior” rating on the AIB audit and are also anticipating a very good score on the Primus audit.

Capital City Fruit will remain diligent with our food safety programs and training to ensure our produce continues to be safe and wholesome for all of our customers.
