Capital City Fruit donated over 8,000 pounds to the Des Moines Area Religious Council Food Pantry in late April.  The Pantry, in turn, moved the strawberries through their network of 12 pantry sites throughout the Des Moines area.

Capital City Fruit, Inc. was recognized for its work to eliminate hunger in Central Iowa at the annual Des Moines Area Religious Council (DMARC) Service Awards Luncheon on May 21st, 2009. Capital City Fruit was one of 4 organizations recognized by DMARC for service to the community.

As part of Capital City Fruit's commitment to improving business processes, Capital City Fruit has invested in a new accounting and operating software system. Effective April 1, 2009, all operations including purchasing, receiving, sales, repacking, shipping and accounting, will utilize the Edible Software program, a product of Solid Software Solutions, L.L.C., based out of Houston, Texas.
